Opposition candidates call on Congo to annul vote (AP)
Published at 30 November 2011, 23:06 GMT

Electoral commission workers verify ballots brought from polling stations at the central compilation center in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tuesday Nov 29, 2011. Ballots were dropped and checked outside, as construction inside was still being done. The vote is only the second since the end of Congo's last war, and the first to be organized by the government instead of the international community. The election was supposed to mark another step toward peace, but if the results are not accepted by the population, especially the country's fractured opposition, analysts fear it could drag Congo back into conflict.(AP Photo/Jerome Delay)AP - For the past two days, Chantal Pande has set her alarm for 4:30 a.m., putting on her makeup and arriving before first light at the polling station where she's been assigned to vote in Congo's momentous election.
